7 Signs It’s Time to Bring In the Heating Experts
A problem with your heater could leave you out in the cold and facing costly replacement expenses. If your home or business experiences any of the following seven issues, it’s time to contact a local heating expert to inspect your heater. A Casteel technician can ensure your heater gets back up and running properly.
Higher Energy Bills
Have you noticed an increase in the amount you’re paying each month on your utility bills? The cause could be your heater. When your unit needs repairs it heats less efficiently, meaning it takes more energy to heat your home, costing you more each month.
Can’t Remember When Your Last Service Was
Was the last time your heater serviced so long ago you can’t even remember it? If the answer is yes then it’s time to get your heater tuned up by a professional.
Yellow Pilot Light
The pilot light in your heater should be burning bright blue. If it’s burning yellow instead, you need to contact an HVAC expert to check for a possible carbon monoxide leak.
Dirty Filters or Vents
Filters help your heater achieve maximum efficiency. If you’re noticing dirt around your vents, you could have a dirty filter, which can decrease the air quality and make your heater work harder.
Heaters typically last 15-20 years. If your heater is getting up there in age, it could be time for service to keep it working properly or look into a unit replacement.
Creaks, squeaks, and other unusual noises mean a component in your heating system is loose. Our team provides dependable furnace repair services in areas of Georgia such as Savannah, Athens, Newnan, Gainesville, Atlanta, and Marietta. We will perform an inspection of your heating system to diagnose the source of the noises and fix the issue. Get your furnace inspected by a heating expert who can make sure everything is in working order.
House Takes a Long Time to Heat Up
When it takes longer than usual for your home to heat up, your heater needs to be serviced. Don’t delay in getting a heating professional out to inspect your unit.
Common Types of Furnace Problems
The heating technicians at Casteel can diagnose your heater and make any necessary repairs. If you’re experiencing a heater problem, it could be from one of these four common issues. Our technicians can assist in the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of your heating system.
Repeatedly Cycling On and Off
If the heater is frequently cycling on and off when it should be dormant, you could end up paying more on your utility bills. The cause could be a dirty filter or clogged airflow, but a technician can accurately diagnose the cause of the problem.
Cracked Heat Exchanger
The heat exchanger in your furnace keeps the system running safely by keeping the heat separate from gas. The heat exchanger can crack over time without proper maintenance and result in a gas leak in your home. Our contractors provide innovative furnace repair services in Atlanta, GA and other areas and have the tools necessary to fix or replace the damaged heat exchanger in your heating system.
Broken Blower Belt
If you’re hearing a high-pitched squealing sound when your heater is running, the issue could stem from the blower belt. This keeps the fan in the heater working, and over time it can get worn and break. A heating technician will be able to replace this belt for you.
Damaged Limit Switch
Any damage to the limit switch could make the blower stay on continuously. A Casteel technician can properly repair or replace this piece.

Updates to the Regional HVAC Equipment Efficiency and Testing Standards
Effective January 1, 2023, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will update its efficiency and testing standards for residential and commercial HVAC equipment. All regulatory changes will differ by product type and region. Since the updated standards will result in price increases across all HVAC contractors, now is the time to buy the equipment you need for your home or business.
The minimum efficiency standards for residential and commercial air conditioners and heat pumps manufactured after January 1, 2023, will increase. This change will increase production efficiency and national energy savings while decreasing national energy consumption.
Northern U.S. & Canada
All split-system air conditioners, split-system heat pumps, and packaged units manufactured after January 1, 2023, must meet the updated standards. However, split-system air conditioners, split-system heat pumps, and packaged units manufactured before January 1, 2023, can be installed indefinitely. The efficiency rating for air conditioners will increase from 13 SEER to 15 SEER in these regions.
Split-system air conditioners manufactured before January 1, 2023, can’t be installed once the updated standards take effect. All installations of products that don’t meet the new standards must be completed by December 31, 2022. However, split-system heat pumps, single-packaged air conditioners, and single-packaged heat pumps manufactured after January 1, 2023, can be installed indefinitely. The efficiency rating for air conditioners will increase from 14 SEER to 15 SEER in both the Southwest and Southeast regions.
In addition to higher minimum efficiency standards, the M1 testing procedures used for residential and 3 to 5-ton light commercial, single-phase equipment manufactured on or after January 1, 2023, will increase. This change will produce more accurate SEER, EER, and HSPF efficiency ratings. Manufacturers will be required to re-test equipment using the new M1 Standard requirements as well as publish equipment efficiency ratings using the new efficiency metrics of SEER2, EER2, and HSPF2.
